Wolf may lose endangered species listing (AP)

This photo provided by the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks shows a gray wolf pup from the Calder Mountain pack along the Montana and Idaho borders west of Troy, Mont. in this August 2005, file photo. It took $24 million in federal funds and more than two decades to bring wolves back from near-extinction in the northern Rocky Mountains. Now, federal officials may be able to justify removing them from the endangered species list — opening the way for states to let hunters and trappers kill them. (AP Photo/Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks, Kent Lauden)AP - For rancher Randy Petrich, the removal of gray wolves from the endangered species list — a move that would open up the animals to hunting in the Northern Rockies for the first time in decades — couldnt come soon enough.

Biometrics Help Identify, Apprehend and Deter Illegal Migrants
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced today that in the first year of operation, its biometrics at sea program has collected biometric data from 1,368 migrants, prosecuted 90 of those migrants, and helped reduce the flow of illegal migration by nearly 50 percent in the waters between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. This program, initiated last November, is an information sharing effort between US VISIT and the U.S. Coast Guard to address the challenge of identifying illegal migrants who are interdicted at sea. The success of the program has significantly advanced the effort to develop effective mobile solutions for biometric collection and analysis, and represents another step in the department's comprehensive strategy to secure the nation's borders.
