Whale found deep in Brazil rain forest (AP)

Residents of Brazils Amazon Basin try to coax a minke whale to reach deeper water after it swam some 1,000 km (621 miles) from the Atlantic Ocean up the Amazon River and into the tributary Tapajos River, in the village of Belterra near Santarem, November 15, 2007. This was the first time that people from this region have seen a whale in their area. The whale disappeared into deeper water early on November 16 and experts from the Brazilian environmental protection agency IBAMA are searching for it by boat and helicopter. Picture taken November 15, 2007. REUTERS/Elildo Carvalho Jr. (BRAZIL)AP - An 18-foot minke whale ran aground on a sandbar in the Amazon jungle some 1,000 miles from the ocean, Brazilian media reported Friday. Globo television broadcast images of dozens of people gathered along the Tapajos River splashing water on the animal, whose back and dorsal fin were exposed to the hot Amazon sun. Sea creatures rarely venture so far into fresh water.
